Anti-Polar Ordering in Polycrystalline Samarium Doped BiFeO3

چکیده
Bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3 or BFO) has recently been intensively investigated due to its ability to exhibit a rare combination of both ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic ordering at room temperature [1]. Current literature shows that several solid solutions between BFO and rare-earth (La, Nd, Sm, Gd) ferrites, exhibit morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) between a polar (rhombohedral) and non-polar (orthorhombic) phase at which electromechanical properties are maximized [2]. The discovery of a compositionally induced anti-polar phase in the vicinity of the polar-to-non-polar phase transition stimulated further interest in the structural behavior of these BFO-based materials [3].

متن کاملStudying the Polarization Switching in Polycrystalline BiFeO3 Films by 2D Piezoresponse Force Microscopy
For rhombohedral multiferroelectrics, non-180° ferroelectric domain switching may induce ferroelastic and/or (anti-)ferromagnetic effect. So the determination and control of ferroelectric domain switching angles is crucial for nonvolatile information storage and exchange-coupled magnetoelectric devices. We try to study the intrinsic characters of polarization switching in BiFeO3 by introducing ...

Remarkably enhanced photovoltaic effects have been observed in the heterostructures of p-type A-site Nd3+-doped BiFeO3 (Bi0.9375Nd0.0625)FeO3 (or BFONd) polycrystalline ceramics and the n-type ITO thin film. The maximum power conversion is ~0.82%, which is larger than 0.015% in BiFeO3 (BFO) under blue-ultraviolet irradiation of wavelength λ = 405 nm. The current-voltage (I-V) characteristic cur...

متن کاملComposition-driven structural phase transitions in rare-earth-doped BiFeO3 ceramics: a review.
Bismuth ferrite suffers from high leakage currents and the presence of a complex incommensurate spin cycloidal magnetic ordering, which has limited its commercial viability and has led researchers to investigate the functionality of doped BiFeO3 ceramics. In particular, the substitution of rare earths onto the Bi(3+) site of the perovskite lattice have been shown to lead to improved functional ...
